Skilled students compete to win

SkillsUSA places high in state competition

Recently our SkillsUSA team went to compete in the state competition. The SkillsUSA competition show-
cases the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue
through the state and national levels.

This competition, eight students advanced to States. In Digital Cinema Production for regionals Wyatt Hervey (12) & Yamil Diego Nassif-Sanchez (11) placed 1st; and Marcus Snyder (11) & Zander Renzi (11) got 3rd. As our first year competing in 3-D Animation, Azalia Mutebi (9) & Corinn Richman (11) received 2nd place in regionals. For Photography, Morgen Reiser (9) placed 2nd and Enessia Estrada (12) got 4th. Students advancing got the choice to pick if they wanted to bring actors/models. People brought were Andres Cornell (11), Quinn Anderson (11), Lucas Funkhauser (11), and Caydence Lyon (12).

Digital Cinema Productions state competition’s Wyatt Hervy (12) and Yamil Diego Nassif-Sanchez (11) got 3rd place.

Yamil exclaimed, “I was on the edge of my seat wondering if we even made the podium when I saw we didn’t get first or second, but I was definitely relieved when I saw we made third and thought ‘Well, that’s not too bad.’ Overall, I’m fairly satisfied!”

We are extremely proud of our whole skillsUSA team and how much work and dedication they put into their competitions. From driving 10 hours one way to sleepless nights, they really went above and beyond for their assignments.

It wasn’t all grinding and work, they also got to relax in cool ways. Club members took a late night swim, had a movie night, and even went to Universal Studios.

Caydence Lyon (12) expresses that, “It was a slay experience!! I learned a lot about camera stuff and got to be with friends.”

Overall, the trip was a one of a kind experience packed full of hard work and fun.
