Many naturally crave to see and create arts and theatricals. People star in everything from movies to common high school plays. Many commonly just see the actors and think about how fabulous their acting skills are, but most never really get to take a look at what’s backstage. Lets take a look at the work behind the scenes and see how everything isn’t the “glitz and glamour” as seen on stage.

Personally, I work for props backstage, and have seen and been to plays myself. I realize that I often forget about all of the work being put in a musical, not just the typical actor you see on a main stage. As there are main roles such as; the main character, side characters, ensemble and beyond, there are different layers of roles backstage, such as; stage manager, director, props, hair and makeup, lighting, and more.

There are over 20 backstage roles that can be taken in theater all putting in so much effort and time. I have gone to a variety of different meetings in the past week for the production crew which took over 10 hours so far, and could be much more for other roles. This is light work for most people in production teams, because I personally only carry the weight of two roles: props and set building. Many other students are working very hard for our spring musical Anything Goes!.

Heres what several crew members had to say about Anything Goes! production.

You have a lot of work days which kind of sucks and you have to build things at 9 AM in the morning on a Saturday which isn’t that fun.

It makes you work hard and work towards a same goal with the people around you.

From rehearsal to rehearsal, hour after hour, the talented actors not only act, but sing and dance. The Inspire actors have put in so much effort and dedication, no matter their role.

From, stage crew and their seamless transitions from scene to scene hiding in cracks, prop makers making sure each member has the proper equips to enhance the play, lighting designers making sure every spotlight is shined, actors portraying the comedic story, and so much more, every participant is playing a part in the production of Anything Goes!
